ALESSANDRIA: 150 years of perfecting BAROLO
Vittorio Alessandria, winemaker
What was your family doing in 1870? The Alessandria family acquired a small estate in the village of Verduno in northernmost Barolo, then a hotspot for Barolo favored by the influential Duke of Savoy. While overlooked in much of the 20th c., five generations later, the Alessandria estate, like other traditional, artisanal properties, has been re-discovered by dedicated Piedmont specialists and made available to wine lovers the world over.
What’s different about Verduno vs. more famous villages of Barolo? The aromatic elegance of its Barolos, and the rare, indigenous grapes such as Pelaverga and Favorita, enjoyable wines with unique personalities.
What a wonderful discovery for fans of nebbiolo and artisanal quality wines! Taste the family wine traditions that brought them fame more than a century ago.
